I’ve heard Lutzer on Run to Win, and let’s just say he’s not the most humble believer out there. This pride (which goeth before the fall) seems to infect his “logic” though. Look friends, just because Christianity is a good idea, or accounts for all the suffering and injustice in the world, or offers an alternative to the most astonishing event in our lives – our own death – a moment when we simply cease to exist – doesn’t PROVE the texts of the Bible. Either Jesus walked on water or he didn’t – which means, either Bible is accurate or it’s not. The injustice, unaccounted for by the atheist outlook has nothing to do with the miracles of Jesus. Truth be told, the world is full of people who embrace the teachings of the Bible but don’t believe the miracles. The church has profited by their distance in time. They can’t be proven or disproven. So when Lutzer says their historicity checks out, he’s shading the facts.

I listen to Lutzer, and love him. I’ve never heard anything you’re describing. Examples?

Look friends, just because Christianity is a good idea, or accounts for all the suffering and injustice in the world, or offers an alternative to the most astonishing event in our lives – our own death – a moment when we simply cease to exist – doesn’t PROVE the texts of the Bible.

Agreed. Just b/c it’s a good idea, doesn’t mean it’s true. I’ll grant you that.

Either Jesus walked on water or he didn’t – which means, either Bible is accurate or it’s not.

Correct – are you saying He didn’t?

The injustice, unaccounted for by the atheist outlook has nothing to do with the miracles of Jesus. Truth be told, the world is full of people who embrace the teachings of the Bible but don’t believe the miracles.

If you “don’t believe the miracles”, then you truly don’t “embrace the teachings of the Bible”, either. One isn’t present without the other.

The church has profited by their distance in time. They can’t be proven or disproven. So when Lutzer says their historicity checks out, he’s shading the facts.

A lot of accusations here, Bookert, but no facts to back anything. Do you have any specifics you’d like to share?

As far as Christians embracing the teachings of the Bible but not believing in the miracles is concerned, it is something I have found puzzling myself. You either believe it all or why bother calling yourself a Bible believing Christian?
For me, it is all completely true, miracles and all. I always challenge any Christian, be it a Pastor, or a leader, when he questions the miracles……from the world wide flood to the changing of the water into wine. If God is God, then nothing is impossible with Him.

OOps…my brain had a gliche there….I didn’t mean the flood, I meant the crossing of the Red Sea by Moses and the children of Israel.
