Should Christians bother with politics?

Posted by truthtalklive on June 25, 2008

John MacArthur has written “Why Government Can’t Save You” and implies that politics is not something that Christians should spend too much time on. A group of Christians is advocating staying out of politics all together with their book “Electing Not to Vote.” Others are claiming that the end is nigh, so why bother. There are other arguments:

The world is evil.
Satan is in control of the world.
Jesus didn’t get mixed up in politics so why should we?
We can’t impose our morality on other people.
There’s a separation between church and state.
Our citizenship is in heaven.
Let’s just preach the gospel.

To be honest, although I vote for who I would prefer to be in Parliament (in Britain) I see the government bringing in more and more laws that go against Gods laws. So really, I don’t think my vote has helped to keep my country Christian, infact even with Christians in governement it still continues to go downhill fast morally.
That doesn’t mean to say that we havn’t had a few victories, but over all, this country….and I suspect the U.S.A, is slowly losing it’s freedom of Christianity if not religion.

What freedom of Christianity are you losing in your country?

John: They have banned Bibles in certain hospitals (Gideons) so that they don’t offend the Moslems. They banned Christmas decorations and particularly the Nativity scene in Red Cross shops. (ditto) You can’t preach or give out gospel literature freely on some streets in this country because the establishment (again) don’t want to offend the Moslems. An elderly man was arrested recently for giving out tracts on the streets (can’t remember the place) ofcourse he was released with a caution, but things like this are coming against our Christian freedoms.

Pastors in Churches could be put in prison if they preach against homosexuality (as taught in Romans 1)it being a sin….we now have a ”sexual hatred” bill which means you can’t speak against homosexuals or their life style, without the threat of imprisonment. If you own a Christian guest house or B&B you are not allowed to discriminate against homosexuals sleeping in your establishment even though it goes against your convictions. This goes for hotels too.

A couple was banned from fostering because they held to Christian beliefs and would teach the children Biblical morals and beliefs. They fought this and actually won against this ban.
Christian, including Roman Catholic Childrens Homes were told they had to let homosexuals adopt children which was anathema to them ofcourse. It means they would have to close down, because it was against their conscience and Christian beliefs to do so.

There are many more instancies of Christianity and Christian freedoms being threatened in this country. I know America has it’s own problems in this area. Maybe Christians over there could name a few.

If you don’t try to change the world, the world will still change. It just will be someone else changing it. If the Christian is not changing it, who is?

p.s. The government can save you, just ask an Indian…

Jesus didn’t get mixed up in politics so why should we? Oh? I thought he was crucified. You can’t get more involved than that. Give God your time, money, heart & brain. Why not your vote? Well actually this stuff is on loan. you can’t take it with you, and you can’t ‘give’ it to the being that already owns it whither we think so or not.

We can’t impose our morality on other people. Too true, But the government can. Who’s morality do you want inforced? Christian or other? If voting saves one innocent human life, it is well worth it.

There’s a separation between church and state. Yes & you want to make it bigger.

Our citizenship is in heaven. Have you ever heard of dual citizenship?

Let’s ‘just’ preach the gospel. If you believe that, than why are you reading this on a blog? I think you should also try to live it too.

As you watch the flooding in the Midwest, have you noticed that there are no farmers running around with stolen plasma TVs or holding stolen liquor over their heads? There’s no looting or yelling “Where’s Bush?”, “Where’s FEMA?, Where’s my check?” or “Why isn’t the Government out here saving me and my farm?” Likewise, I’ve also noticed there are no reports of any other country coming to help or sending aid and where are Reverends Jessie Jackson and Al Sharpton?
