An Ironic Juxtaposition
By Chuck Colson

In my new just-released book, The Faith, I argue that the two greatest challenges to the Christian worldview come from radical Islam and extreme secularism. Almost on cue, recent events in Europe have conspired to illustrate the point.

In Britain, one Anglican bishop wrote in the Telegraph about the impact of the “worldwide resurgence of the ideology of Islamic extremism” on British Muslims. When coupled with British-style multiculturalism, the results are young British Muslims alienated from “the nation in which they [grew] up.” He warned about efforts “to give Britain an increasingly Islamic character by introducing the call to prayer and wider use of sharia law.” And Muhammad turns out now to be the second most popular name for newborn baby boys.

  1. I wonder why nobody wants to discus this subject.. They would rather banter back and fourth over doctrinal differences…

I just knew there had to be a good reason why Islam is the fastest grow ideology in the World.

Maybe God wants to practices Sufism… Or maybe Jainism… Maybe Mohammad was right to stand up against the Aristocracy and Merchant class his day, as it stands now Christians have totally sold out to the Evils of the God Mammon and bent a Knee at the Alter of Capitalism…(Selah) Maybe being a Muslim would be better?

No, Allah Smalla… I really don’t like ALLAH either, although I would rather punch Jehovah in the mouth.

I see some irony, but it isn’t the irony Colson meant me to notice. The fact that Colson and his fundamentalist Christian fellow-travelers feel threatened by an increasing fundamentalist Islamic populace is ironic. Our real worry should be fundamentalism of any stripe.

It isn’t a secular “elite” causing the increase in fundamentalism (be it Islamic or Christian), but since Colson’s fundamentalism can’t explain any other way why God would let Islam increase in “Christian” Europe (or the USA for that matter), then it must be those “elite” liberals causing the phenonmenon. It must really irk him that God doesn’t seem to vote the same way he does.

Don’t get me wrong, I think we need to be ready for the dangers that Islamic extremism presents. Our secular Constitution helps us in that way.
