Mr. McFarland seems to be very passionate and fairly knowledgeable, but I’m afraid he may be missing the boat a little bit. The key, in my opinion to preventing the kids from falling away is not train 10 year olds in apologetics. What kids must know is that at heart our faith is about a relationship with, and faith in Jesus Christ. If they grow up knowing that God loves them, so much that he sent his son to die for them and that is ingrained in them from the time they are born, when a teacher or someone else comes along criticizing the faith it will be like water off a duck’s back. The danger here is making the faith all about defending propositions, and nothing else. Being able to articulate the basic tenets of the faith is vitally important, particularly as one gets older, but apolgetics is not the be all and end all of our faith for kids.

    Agreed,

I would add to your statement anonymous is that it is important to teach our kids the foundational things that keep us believers in line with God’s word. When they are young, teach our kids the importance of prayer, reading & studying God’s word, and fasting. Then as they grow, teach them why you do things (because Christ did it also) because the servant is not greater than the master. If Christ had to do things, how much more important we as his followers need to follow this example. Get involve and be aware of what is being taught to them a school, and be ready to give and answer when a child ask. I was taught the God created the heavens and the earth, so when evolution was taught I knew that it was just a “theory” and my beliefs couldn’t be shaken. Just my thoughts and concerns

    Alex Mcfarland,

Could you check out the last few post under the heading “Can you ba gay and Christian” and give input? Your name is being used and I think you may be being misrepresented there.

    thanks!
