How can we say a person is a good person when that person is teaching a belief that is sending others to Hell, such as a Mormon? Doesn’t the Word say no one is good and that all of our goodness is as a filthy rag?? thanks
Didn’t get to hear the show about it, so not sure what the context is, but Jehovah’s Witnesses, many of them are good people. I’m meaning morally good, not spiritually good. Yes, they believe a false gospel, and they witness to others about it, but let’s give them credit, at least they’re out there knocking on doors – how many of us get out and do that week in and week out like they do? For that, I at least congratulate them, as they are determined about their faith (though I presume that works being part of their salvation has at least something to do with it). Also, you have to remember, most JW’s have in a sense been brainwashed, and are told by their hierarchy that we will respond in exactly the manner in which we do, so when we respond that way, it just serves to underscore their hierarchy’s position, lending further credence to it, in their minds. It’s a tough position to be in.
But the Christian who knows their Bible, and follows the leading of the Spirit, can effectively witness to them.
Here’s another good verse to use with them – John 8:58. Why did they want to stone Jesus? For blaspheme, b/c He was calling himself God. But if their translation is true (in the NWT), then the context doesn’t make sense, b/c if Jesus said what their Bible says He did, then it wouldn’t have been blasphemy, now would it? There’s always something to blow their mind, but the main thing is you have to crack their belief that the Watchtower is always right. Unless you can do that, it’s tough.
